Gospel  LK 1:26-38

The angel Gabriel was sent from God
to a town of Galilee called Nazareth,
to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph,
of the house of David,
and the virgin’s name was Mary.
And coming to her, he said,
“Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.”
But she was greatly troubled at what ̧was said
and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. Then the angel said to her,
“Do not be afraid, Mary,
for you have found favor with God.  “Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son,
and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High,
and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father,
and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever,
and of his kingdom there will be no end.” But Mary said to the angel,
“How can this be,
since I have no relations with a man?”
And the angel said to her in reply,
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you,
and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.
Therefore the child to be born
will be called holy, the Son of God.”
And behold, Elizabeth, your relative,
has also conceived a son in her old age,
and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren;
for nothing will be impossible for God. Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.
May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.

Responsorial Psalm For Third Sunday of Advent, Year B – Luke 1:46-48, 49-50, 53-54

R. (Isaiah 61:10b) My soul rejoices in my God.

46 My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
47 my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has looked upon his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
R. My soul rejoices in my God.

49 the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.
50 He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
R. My soul rejoices in my God.

53 He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
54 He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
R. My soul rejoices in my God.

because he has anointed me
to bring glad tidings to the poor.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel for Third Sunday of Advent, Year B – John 1:6-8, 19-28

6 A man named John was sent from God.

7 He came for testimony, to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him.

8 He was not the light, but was to give testimony of the light.

19 And this is the testimony of John. When the Jews from Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to him to ask him, “Who are you?”

20 he admitted and did not deny it, but admitted, “I am not the Messiah.”

21 So they asked him, “What are you then? Are you Elijah?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” He answered, “No.”

22 So they said to him, “Who are you, so we can give an answer to those who sent us? What do you have to say for yourself?”

23 He said: “I am ‘the voice of one crying out in the desert, “Make straight the way of the Lord,”‘ as Isaiah the prophet said.”

24 Some Pharisees were also sent.

25 They asked him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah or Elijah or the Prophet?”

26 John answered them, “I baptize with water; but there is one among you whom you do not recognize,

27 the one who is coming after me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie.”

28 These things were done in Bethania, beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High,
and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father,
and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever,
and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

But Mary said to the angel,
“How can this be,
since I have no relations with a man?”
And the angel said to her in reply,
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you,
and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.
Therefore the child to be born
will be called holy, the Son of God.”
And behold, Elizabeth, your relative,
has also conceived a son in her old age,
and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren;
for nothing will be impossible for God. Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.
May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.

Second Sunday of Advent, Year B

Responsorial Psalm For Second Sunday of Advent Year, B – Psalms 85:9-10, 11-12, 13-14

R. (8) Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us your salvation.

9 I will hear what the Lord God will speak in me:
for he will speak peace unto his people.
10 Surely his salvation is near to them that fear him:
that glory may dwell in our land.
R. Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us your salvation.

11 Mercy and truth have met each other:
justice and peace have kissed.
12 Truth is sprung out of the earth:
and justice has looked down from heaven.
R. Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us your salvation.

13 For the Lord will give goodness:
and our earth shall yield her fruit.
14 Justice shall walk before him:
and shall set his steps in the way.
R. Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us your salvation.

Alleluia For Second Sunday of Advent, Year B – Luke 3:4, 6

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
4 Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths:
6 All flesh shall see the salvation of God.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel For Second Sunday of Advent, Year B – Mark 1:1-8

1 The beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ the Son of God.

2 As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: “Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you; he will prepare your way.

3 A voice of one crying out in the desert: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.’”

4 John the Baptist appeared in the desert proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

5 People of the whole Judean countryside and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the Jordan River as they acknowledged their sins.

6 John was clothed in camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist. He fed on locusts and wild honey.

7 And this is what he proclaimed: “One mightier than I is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals.

8 I have baptized you with water; but he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

First Sunday of Advent Year B

Responsorial Psalm For First Sunday of Advent, Year B – Psalms 80:2-3, 15-16, 18-19

R. (4) Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved.

2 O shepherd of Israel, hearken, from your throne upon the cherubim, shine forth.
3 Rouse your power, and come to save us.
R. Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved.

15 Once again, O LORD of hosts, look down from heaven, and see; take care of this vine,
16 and protect what your right hand has planted the son of man whom you yourself made strong.
R. Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved.

18 May your help be with the man of your right hand, with the son of man whom you yourself made strong.
19 Then we will no more withdraw from you; give us new life, and we will call upon your name.
R. Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved.

Alleluia For First Sunday of Advent, Year B – Psalms 85:8

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
8 Show us Lord, your love;
and grant us your salvation.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel For First Sunday of Advent, Year B – Mark 13:33-37

Jesus said to his disciples:
33 “Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come.

34 It is like a man traveling abroad. He leaves home and places his servants in charge, each with his own work, and orders the gatekeeper to be on the watch.

35 Watch, therefore; you do not know when the lord of the house is coming, whether in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning.

36 May he not come suddenly and find you sleeping.

37 What I say to you, I say to all: ‘Watch!’”

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Be watchful! Be alert!
You do not know when the time will come.
It is like a man traveling abroad.
He leaves home and places his servants in charge,
each with his own work,
and orders the gatekeeper to be on the watch.
Watch, therefore;
you do not know when the Lord of the house is coming,
whether in the evening or at midnight,

May he not come suddenly and find you sleeping.
