They bound the hands of Jesus

in the garden where he prayed

They led Him thro’ the street in shame

They spat upon the Savior

so pure and free from sin

They said, “Crucify Him! He’s to blame.

Ch: He could have called ten thousand angels

to destroy the world and said Him free

He could have called ten thousand angels

But he died alone, for you and me.

2. Upon His Precious head

They placed a crown of thorns

They laughed and said “Behold the King”

They struck Him and they cursed Him

And mocked his holy name

All alone He suffered everything.

Ch: He could have called ten thousand angels

to destroy the world and said Him free

He could have called ten thousand angels

But he died alone, for you and me.

3. When they nailed him to the cross

His mother stood near by

He said “woman behold they son”

He cried , “I thirst for water

They gave Him none to drink

Then the sinful work of man was done.

Ch: He could have called ten thousand angels

to destroy the world and said Him free

He could have called ten thousand angels

But he died alone, for you and me.

4. To the howling mob He yielded

He did not for mercy cry

The cross of shame He took alone

And when He said it’s finished

He gave Himself to die

Salvation’s wondrous plan was done.

Ch: He could have called ten thousand angels

to destroy the world and said Him free

He could have called ten thousand angels

But he died alone, for you and me.

Gospel – Luke 4:1-13

Advertisements

1 Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert

2 for forty days, to be tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days and when they were over he was hungry.

3 The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.”

4 Jesus answered him, “It is written, One does not live on bread alone.”

5 Then he took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a single instant.

6 The devil said to him, “I shall give to you all this power and glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I may give it to whomever I wish.

7 All this will be yours, if you worship me.”

8 Jesus said to him in reply, “It is written: You shall worship the Lord, your God, and him alone shall you serve.”

9 Then he led him to Jerusalem, made him stand on the parapet of the temple, and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here,

10 for it is written: He will command his angels concerning you, to guard you,

11 and: With their hands they will support you, lest you dash your foot against a stone.”

12 Jesus said to him in reply, “It also says, You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test.”

13 When the devil had finished every temptation, he departed from him for a time.

Gospel For Second Sunday of Lent, Year C
Gospel – Luke 9:28B-36

28B Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went up the mountain to pray.

29 While he was praying his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white.

30 And behold, two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah,

31 who appeared in glory and spoke of his exodus that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem.

32 Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep, but becoming fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him.

Advertisements

33 As they were about to part from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here; let us make three tents, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” But he did not know what he was saying.

34 While he was still speaking, a cloud came and cast a shadow over them, and they became frightened when they entered the cloud.

35 Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my chosen Son; listen to him.”

36 After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. They fell silent and did not at that time tell anyone what they had seen.

Prayer of Transfiguration and Revelation.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father,

We come before You in awe and reverence, just as Peter, John, and James did on that sacred mountain. As they witnessed the dazzling glory of Your Son, Jesus, we too seek a glimpse of His divine light in our lives.

Lord, grant us the grace to rise above our slumber, awakening our hearts to Your presence. Help us to see beyond the ordinary and recognize the extraordinary moments where You reveal Yourself to us. May we, like the disciples, be transformed by the beauty of Your glory and the truth of Your Word.

As Moses and Elijah spoke of the exodus, remind us of the journey we are on—one that leads us closer to You. Strengthen our faith as we navigate the trials and tribulations of life, knowing that You are guiding us toward salvation.

In moments of confusion, may we listen intently to the voice that calls from the cloud, affirming Jesus as Your chosen Son. Help us to heed His teachings and follow His example, embracing the love and compassion He offers.

Lord, in our desire to build tents of comfort, remind us that true fulfillment is found not in our plans but in surrendering to Your will. Let our hearts be open to the transformative power of Your Spirit, leading us to share the glory we have experienced with others.

As we leave this sacred moment, may we carry the light of Christ within us, shining brightly in a world that longs for hope and truth. We ask this in the name of Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer.

Amen.

First Sunday of Lent, Year C

Verse Before The Gospel – Matthew 4:4B

4B One does not live on bread alone,
but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.

Gospel Reading for First Sunday of Lent, Year C

2 for forty days, to be tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days and when they were over he was hungry.

4 Jesus answered him, “It is written, One does not live on bread alone.”

12 Jesus said to him in reply, “It also says, You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test.”

13 When the devil had finished every temptation, he departed from him for a time.

Prayer for Strength and Guidance

Heavenly Father,

In this sacred season of Lent, I come before You, filled with gratitude for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ. As He was led by the Holy Spirit into the desert, may I also embrace the journey of self-reflection and spiritual growth.

Lord,
In moments of temptation, remind me of the words of Your Son: “One does not live on bread alone.” Help me to seek nourishment not just for my body, but for my soul. Strengthen my resolve to turn away from worldly desires and to seek fulfillment in Your presence.

Gracious God,
When I face the allure of power and glory, let me remember that true worship belongs to You alone. May I serve You with all my heart, soul, and mind, resisting the distractions that lead me away from Your will.

In times of doubt,
When I am tempted to test Your faithfulness, remind me of Your promises. Teach me to trust in Your divine plan, knowing that You are my protector and guide. Help me to stand firm in faith, just as Jesus did, responding to temptation with the truth of Your Word.

As I journey through this Lent,
May I grow closer to You, Lord. Fill me with the Holy Spirit, and grant me the strength to overcome the trials I face. Let my heart be aligned with Yours, that I may reflect Your love and grace in all that I do.

I ask this in the name of Jesus,
Who overcame temptation and showed us the way to eternal life. Amen.
