Seek and you will find Prayer as a Desire of the Heart.

Seek and you will find. Prayer as a Desire of the Heart.

What is prayer?

Do you know that an honest hope or wish expressed to God is a prayer?  Yes, wishing and hoping to be a better person now and in the future is prayer. A longing or a desire for something good that would bring harmony, fulfillment, and change to yourself and those around you is prayer. This together with acknowledging God for who He is and begging for his forgiveness and protection, amongst others, are high points when you pray. In the following series of prayers coming from my personal experience, I invite you to join me to savor the sweetness of prayers coming from the desires of a heart.

Let us sing and pray:

Gospel for Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Year C

Gospel – Luke 10:38-42

38 Jesus entered a village where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him.

39 She had a sister named Mary who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak.

40 Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me.”

41 The Lord said to her in reply, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things.

42 There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.”

R. (cf. 33) Turn to the Lord in your need, and you will live

14 I pray to you, O LORD,

for the time of your favour, O God!

In your great kindness answer me

with your constant help.

17 Answer me, O LORD, for bounteous is your kindness:

in your great mercy turn toward me.

R. Turn to the Lord in your need, and you will live.

30 I am afflicted and in pain;

let your saving help, O God, protect me.

31 I will praise the name of God in song,

and I will glorify him with thanksgiving.

R. Turn to the Lord in your need, and you will live

33 “See, you lowly ones, and be glad;

you who seek God, may your hearts revive!

34 For the LORD hears the poor,

and his own who are in bonds he spurns not.”

R.Turn to the Lord in your need, and you will live.

36 For God will save Zion

and rebuild the cities of Judah.

37 The descendants of his servants shall inherit it,

and those who love his name shall inhabit it.

R. Turn to the Lord in your need, and you will live.

Gospel for Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Year C  – Luke 10:25-37

25 There was a scholar of the law who stood up to test him and said, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

26 Jesus said to him, “What is written in the law? How do you read it?”

27 He said in reply,

You shall love the Lord, your God,

with all your heart,

with all your being,

with all your strength,

and with all your mind,

and your neighbour as yourself.”

28 He replied to him, “You have answered correctly; do this and you will live.”

29 But because he wished to justify himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbour?”

30 Jesus replied, “A man fell victim to robbers as he went down from Jerusalem to Jericho. They stripped and beat him and went off leaving him half-dead.

31 A priest happened to be going down that road, but when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side.

2 Shout joyfully to God, All the earth

sing praise to the glory of his name;

proclaim his glorious praise.

3 Say to God, “How tremendous are your deeds!”

R. Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.

4 “Let all on earth worship and sing praise to you,

sing praise to your name!”

5 Come and see the works of God,

his tremendous deeds among the children of Adam.

R. Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.

6 He has changed the sea into dry land;

through the river they passed on foot;

therefore let us rejoice in him.

7 He rules by his might forever.

R. Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.

16 Hear now, all you who fear God, while I declare

what he has done for me.

20 Blessed be God who refused me not

my prayer or his kindness!

R. Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.

Gospel for Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C

Gospel – Luke 10:1-12, 17-20

1 At that time the Lord appointed seventy-two others whom he sent ahead of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit.

2 He said to them, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.

3 Go on your way; behold, I am sending you like lambs among wolves.

4 Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals; and greet no one along the way.

5 Into whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this household.’

6 If a peaceful person lives there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you.

7 Stay in the same house and eat and drink what is offered to you, for the laborer deserves his payment. Do not move about from one house to another.

8 Whatever town you enter and they welcome you, eat what is set before you,

9 cure the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God is at hand for you.’

10 Whatever town you enter and they do not receive you, go out into the streets and say,

11 ‘The dust of your town that clings to our feet, even that we shake off against you.’ Yet know this: the kingdom of God is at hand.

12 I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom on that day than for that town.”

17 The seventy-two returned rejoicing, and said, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us because of your name.”

18 Jesus said, “I have observed Satan fall like lightning from the sky.

19 Behold, I have given you the power to ‘tread upon serpents’ and scorpions and upon the full force of the enemy and nothing will harm you.

20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

9 Therefore my heart is glad and my soul rejoices,
my body, too, abides in confidence
10 because you will not abandon my soul to the netherworld,
nor will you suffer your faithful one to undergo corruption.
R. You are my inheritance, O Lord.

11 You will show me the path to life,
fullness of joys in your presence,
the delights at your right hand forever.
R. You are my inheritance, O Lord.

Responsorial Psalm and Gospel For Thirteenth Sunday in OT Year C

Gospel – Luke 9:51-62

51 When the days for Jesus’ being taken up were fulfilled, he resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem,

52 and he sent messengers ahead of him. On the way they entered a Samaritan village to prepare for his reception there,

53 but they would not welcome him because the destination of his journey was Jerusalem.

54 When the disciples James and John saw this they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?”

55 Jesus turned and rebuked them,

56 and they journeyed to another village.

57 As they were proceeding on their journey someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”

58 Jesus answered him, “Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head.”

59 And to another, he said, “Follow me.” But he replied, “Lord, let me go first and bury my father.”

60 But he answered him, “Let the dead bury their dead. But you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”

61 And another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say farewell to my family at home.”

62 To him, Jesus said, “No one who sets a hand to the plough and looks to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God.”
